BUILDING:
The tenement house known as Dom Kolejowy (Railway House) is located at the intersection of Chmielna and Żelazna Streets. It was built in the 1920s for the needs of PKP employees. During the Warsaw Uprising, it was an important insurgent stronghold, housing the quarters and command of the “Warszawianka” company of the National Armed Forces. This fact is commemorated by a plaque on the facade of the building. The facade still shows bullet and shrapnel holes, as well as traces of the work of sappers who inspected Warsaw buildings after the war. Due to its historical value, the tenement house has been entered in the municipal register of monuments.
The tenement house has a huge green courtyard with trees, which serves as a quiet inner park for residents.
