Śródmieście
Gdynia Śródmieście is the city’s central district. Originally, the area was an agricultural and fishing village, and at the beginning of the 20th century it took on the character of a summer resort. Its true development began after 1920, when, under the provisions of the Treaty of Versailles, Poland was granted access to the sea, followed by the decision to begin construction of the port. This major investment was the work of engineer Tadeusz Wenda, who designed and built the port, and Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski, the then Minister of Industry and Trade.
