The townhouse, erected between 1895 and 1897 on a plot of land donated to WTW by Count Ksawery Branicki, was designed by Bronislaw Brochwicz-Rogoyski. Its facade is decorated with an allegorical sculpture of the Vistula River by Hipolit Malczewski.
The interior burned down in 1944, but the building was restored and placed under conservation protection. It served as a year-round base for the WTW, offering, among other things, fencing, gymnastics, a restaurant, and a ballroom, whose wall was decorated with a work by Henryk Siemiradzki featuring the Warsaw Mermaid.
It was a popular meeting space for Warsaw’s elite. Among the members of WTW were Bolesław Prus and Henryk Sienkiewicz, and Stefan Żeromski was a frequent guest.
