It began simply – with a family desire to create a place where history will reign and nature will naturally surround it. In 2000, in the village of Kiermusy in the Podlasie Voivodship, 30 km from Białystok, on the Narew River, in the place of the former border between the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Republic of Poland, were established country house on the meadows and Inn Rzym.
Over the past 20 years, the most distinguished guests have been here: families of Polish presidents, personalities of the world of sport, culture, medicine, creating a unique Aleja Dębów from trees planted by hand.
Kiermusy is not only an alternative to hotels and a place to relax. It is also an extremely interesting history and nature lesson. The interior design of the manor house and the inn takes us to the Sarmatian times. In the nearby ponds live beavers, there are birds breeding places on the banks of the Narew, and the view of walking deer or bison belongs to the natural landscape.
An additional attraction of the place became a building stylized as a castle from the 17th century (the seat of the castellan). The owner took care of every detail, giving it an absolutely unique character and achieving the visual effect of a few centuries-old building. For the first thirteen years of existence it was available only to a few. To spend the night in the castellan chambers you had to book a place well in advance.
Today it houses an absolutely unique, private Museum of Polish Arms Jerzy Hoffman name in Kiermusy. His collections include military items and exhibits from all over Poland and almost from all over Europe, which bring visitors closer to the times of the “Teutonic Knights” and the Henryk Sienkiewicz Trilogy. Jerzy Hoffman, the director of film adaptations for these works, gave the museum some of the props. An undoubted attraction are also the literary characters from the mentioned novels and the torture chamber in the underground dungeon. This is definitely a must-see and at the same time a very interesting destination for families with school-age children.
The attractiveness and fame of this place meant that from year to year more and more guests came. As a result, the owners decided to expand the accommodation space, building atmospheric, year-round houses, stylized as old type houses. The complex of five buildings was built in 2005 in the zone of the Narew and Biebrza National Park, bordering directly with the Żubr Refuge and the oxbow lake of the Narew River. A wooden structure with insulated walls and a tile roof was placed on solid foundations.
On the ground floor of each house there is a living room with a fireplace, a terrace, bedroom and bathroom. On the first floor there are another two bedrooms and a second bathroom. The house is completely furnished and equipped, and thanks to the fireplace and electric heating it can be used all year round. Stylish furniture and many hand-made decorative elements give it a unique character and climate typical of Podlasie. Importantly, access from Warsaw along the S8 route takes just over an hour.
The many attractions that accompany this place are also worth appreciating. For gourmets of good food and unique drinks, an unforgettable, culinary experience is provided by the Inn named Rzym – the Culinary Capital of Podlasie. Sarmatian and Podlasie cuisine reign here, as the owners say, according to the recipes of Mrs. Twardowska herself. Among the dishes are dishes from venison, beef, mutton, pork and fish. The kitchen also serves snacks characteristic of the region, and Kiermusia’s vodkas have already gained their great reputation.
For those seeking contact with nature, in addition to the unique surroundings in the form of the old river bed of Narew and landscape parks and the Knyszyńsko-Białostocki Forest, in 2008 the first private bison breeding farm was established in Kiermusy. “Ostoja Żubra” is located on a 7 hectare forest area and is currently inhabited by a herd of bisons, but also goats, sheep and donkeys, adored by the youngest guests.
The owner and creator of this unique place is a man with many years of experience in the tourism and hotel industry, but above all with a great passion for history of gentry times. This estate is a fulfillment of family dreams about a piece of his own world in which time stopped at the most beautiful moment possible.
This amazing historical and natural masterpiece is available for purchase at the moment. Partners International’s offer includes the entire facility (except the bison refuge), divided into several parts:
- a country house with an inn, swimming pool and mini SPA as well as ponds with beavers,
- a castle surrounded by a moat, where currently houses a museum,
- a complex of five buildings, stylized as old, country houses, with plots of different sizes.
The reputation of the Kiermusy complex is confirmed by numerous awards and distinctions as well as opinions of guests from Poland and abroad. Individual buildings were built with great care and passion to recreate the climate of past times. The items they contain have museum and historical value, and the whole is an excellent business venture from which you can create your idea for life.
