Kamienica 25
Kamienica 25 is the avant-garde inscribed in the centre of Wrocław. On the basis of the historical block we have created 6 unique, large-format flats.
A place for people who seek and follow the unique, appreciating the unconventional, representative character and historical atmosphere of the tenement house.
Experience, culture and authenticity became the direction for us to create Kamienica anew. While remaining in relationship with history, it was important to make Tenement 25 a space for values and a response to the needs of modern, everyday life.
This required increased time, a great deal of commitment, consultation
with the conservation officer and restoration of most elements to make Tenement 25 an asset for the later owner.
We started by getting the history right. With respect for the craftsmanship of the tenement builders, we cultivate their craft. We appreciate the solidity of the construction, the quality of the materials, the volume of the rooms, the meticulous detailing and the beauty of the decorated facades. Hence, it has become our aim to restore the original appearance of the 1899 tenement building, following the design of architect Georg Rzechulka.
The revitalised façade harmoniously combines geometrised decorative elements with the monochromatic colour scheme of the façade alluding to its original face – the colour of broken white shown by stratigraphic research. All the preserved details of the elevation’s plaster decoration date from the period of the building’s construction.
The elevation has a bay window and numerous architectural details in the form of cornices, pilasters and panels. In addition, the windows are framed by ornamental bands.
The colour scheme distinguishes the tenement from the existing buildings and becomes a link between the contemporary building on the left and the historic building on its right.
The choice of colours was confirmed by a feng shui expert opinion, which indicated that the colours of architectural details should refer to the colours of the earth, which is confirmed, among others, by the green entrance door and the graphite window woodwork. These shades revitalise and activate energy, as well as being associated with the creative cycle and development.
We renovated the interior of the staircase, preserving the historic staircase with its characteristic openwork treads and wooden balusters.
We restored the original panelled ornaments, which complement the wooden, historicised shop windows. In the courtyard, we have set aside space for a garden that is an integral green enclave – a place for intimate meetings.
