One of the most recognizable tenement buildings in Warsaw’s Powiśle district, located at 9 Ludna Street. It was built in 1923-1924 as the Residential Building of the Postal Savings Bank. The design was created by the renowned architect Józef Handzelewicz. It is prized for its unique architecture, fascinating history, and one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
In 2017, the building underwent a comprehensive, award-winning renovation. Its historic character was restored with extraordinary attention to detail—the mansard roof and fifth floor were rebuilt, and the stucco work, sculptures, grand entrance portal, and historic gate were restored. The building’s interiors underwent a thorough modernization while preserving their elegant, historic character. For the residents’ comfort, two modern elevators were installed, including a striking glass-enclosed elevator facing the courtyard.
The revitalization project was honored with a second-place award in the “Construction of the Year 2017” competition, presented by the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians.
