Deutsche Schule Warschau

The school’s history dates back to 1978, when the German School in Warsaw was founded at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Initially operating as a school for the children of German diplomats, it later transformed into an international school, with over 400 students and 80 preschool-aged children. The Willy Brandt School in Warsaw consists of a kindergarten, primary school, and high school. It also belongs to a network of 140 German schools abroad, participating in programs such as DAS (Deutsche Auslandsschulen International) and WDA (Weltverband Deutscher Auslandsschulen).

The school is the only school in Poland offering education according to the German curriculum (applicable in Baden-Württemberg and Thuringia). Therefore, it operates based on the German school system, offering all levels of general education, including:

  • primary school
  • real secondary school
  • secondary school

The main focus of education is the acquisition of a secondary education. Students take the German International Matura (DIA) or the Polish Matura exam, thanks to the integration of the Polish-language curriculum. The school divides its education into two sections: German-language and Polish-language (the latter as an international section in grades 1 to 3). The school also boasts a quality certificate awarded by the Federal Republic of Germany – “Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule” (Excellent German School Abroad).

The Willy Brandt School is located in Warsaw’s Wilanów district, near the Temple of Divine Providence at Św. Urszula Ledóchowska 3 Street, where it has an extensive campus.

Significant emphasis is placed on practical learning in science subjects, supporting artistic and musical development through the WBS Music Academy, and sports (a football academy associated with the Borussia Dortmund Youth Academy and athletics training). The school also collaborates with the University of Warsaw. The school supports its students in their professional development by offering them internships, advisory meetings, and trips abroad to Viadriana University in Frankfurt (Oder).
