You cannot come to ALGARVE and not fall in love with it. This region of Portugal is referred to as the best place in the world to live or retire.
Amazing beaches, mild climate and more than 300 days of sunshine make the Algarve an ideal place to live all year round.
BURGAU is called the Portuguese Santorini. The town is characterized by small blue-and-white houses, many of which have breathtaking views of the ocean. This small fishing village, with only 300 residents, despite its low population density, offers a significant number of excellent restaurants and bars, most with views of the coast.
The biggest attraction is Burgau beach, with golden sand, bathed in calm and crystalline waters. Along the beach you can find small fishing boats that still use artisanal fishing techniques.
This beach is the starting point of the Costa Vicentina. With Lagos just 20 minutes along the coast to the east and Sagres a little further west, Burgau is a good base for exploring the western Algarve. Here you can enjoy walks by the ocean and great beaches such as Salema and Praia da Luz.
Historical sites date back to the 16th century. At 3.5 km west of Praia is the small Fort São Luís de Almádena or Fort Boca do Rio, built in 1632 and damaged by an earthquake in 1755 and completely abandoned in 1849.
The village of Burgau is an ideal starting point for exploring the Costa Vicentina. Here you can enjoy the privilege of living in a natural park, with a beautiful coastline that in the Algarve region extends all the way to the village of Odeceixe. This famous coastline consists of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, protected by majestic cliffs and surrounded by long trails with a landscape of breathtaking beauty, where nature has a strong and wild character.
Burgau is an integral part of the Nature Park of the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, which, with more than 110 km, is the longest area of the Portuguese coast under protection. Endowed with a unique and untouched landscape, it provides attractions, for those who seek diversity and wild beauty, and offers countless opportunities for outdoor activities.
FOR SPORTS AND PLENARY ACTIVITY LOVERS, it offers an ocean of opportunities.
As the gateway to the Costa Vicentina Nature Park, the Lagos region combines fantastic beaches with incredible conditions for surfing, sailing, diving, fishing and other water sports.
One of the most striking natural corners of the park is Cabo de São Vicente, the southwesternmost point of continental Europe, a sacred place called finisterra by the ancients, the place where the world ends and the sea begins.
On the outskirts of Lagos is an extensive network of trails, many of which face the ocean, connecting local beaches to the Via Algarviana trail system that runs from the Spanish border to Cabo de São Vicente.
