The Old and New Towns are parts of Śródmieście, described as the most atmospheric and charming places in Warsaw, where you can feel the spirit of the capital. It is the oldest part of the city called Old and New Warsaw. Here, from the 12th and 13th centuries, royal life was vibrant, and marketplaces developed in the adjoining narrow streets. Beautiful tenement houses were built, ever changing with the coming changes in art. Unfortunately, World War II destroyed the architecture of the Old and New Town in almost 90%. After 1945, these areas were rebuilt and today they are the only area in the world reconstructed on a planned basis after the destruction so catastrophic for architecture. These areas have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Today, the Old and New Towns are not only a tourist attraction, the restored tenement houses are popular due to their charm and atmosphere as well as a brilliant location. In addition to priceless monuments, the Old Town offers bars, restaurants and pubs teeming with artistic life and nightlife. It is a well-communicated space – trams and buses as well as Wisłostrada are within walking distance. The infrastructure of service premises is also available within walking distance.
The location of the Old and New Towns on the escarpment guarantees direct access to the Vistula Boulevards, which allow you to enjoy the city’s charms by bike, thanks to bicycle paths or walking along the water.
