Luz is a wonderful seaside town located 5 km from Lagos, near the Costa Vincentina National Park. Although technically Luz is still part of Lagos, it is physically separated by a 2km wide cliff. This physical separation has allowed Luz to retain its identity as a small family village by the ocean, even though it has undergone a major transformation from fishing village to beach paradise.
Although the ocean in Praia da Luz is generally calm, the large waves from the northwest from Cabo de São Vicente create amazing surfing conditions in Luz, mostly in winter. In addition, the clear blue waters and sandy bottom with interesting shelves and rock formations make Luz a natural underwater paradise for divers.
